THE WILLIAM DAFOE 1996 PRADA CAMPAIGN COAT

Extremely rare archive piece from the 1990s Miuccia Prada menswear portfolio. The coat was designed for both the men’s and women’s fall 1996 collections, immortalized in fashion history by style icon Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. The menswear design opts for a roomier overcoat cut and a decorative martingale belt across the back. This iteration comes in a rare red hue which is atypical of Prada and very much particular to this season which Vogue described as a coda to the spring 1996 ‘Ugly Chic’ collection, the one inspired by 70s kitchen appliances. 'The palette was more somber; one might say autumnal.’ (Vogue US). Actor and now long time Prada collaborator William Dafoe was photographed wearing an iteration of this coat for the Prada MAN ad campaign that season.

Condition note-
Remarkable 30+ year old condition. The vibrant color remains in great uniform condition with only some light fold/fade marks from strorage. The fabric is a high quality wool that should be professionally dry cleaned to restore condition from time in storage.
