 Original surrealist red ‘lips’ print skirt from one of Prada’s most collectible seasons. The spring 2000 collection is infamous most of all for its surrealist prints that adorned the most delicate silks and chiffons. These pieces have become highly covetable and this specific print has even been reissued in later years.
          
 While the lipstick variation is famous for its ‘Sex and the City’ pop culture moment, this red lips print is deeply rooted in fashion history. It is yet another homage to one of Miuccia Prada’s earliest inspirations, Yves Saint Laurent -specifically his own red lips print that emerged in 1971. Inspired by pop art then, Miuccia reimagined it into her surrealist vision. 
            
  This skirt was featured blown-up in size on the covers of the ‘Schiaparelli & Prada: Impossible Conversations’ MET published exhibition book. Alongside which was a photographed 1937 lips motif suit by Elsa Schiaparelli. 
                
 ‘Until curators Andrew Bolton and Harold Koda brought this Impossible Conversation to the Metropolitan Museum, not even Prada knew how kindred they are. Until the exhibition, she cited her famous Surrealist lip print from Spring 2000—a motif of floating red lips dotting pleated skirts—as a nod to Yves Saint Laurent. She hadn’t considered YSL was giving lip service to Schiap, who put the pucker on a suit at the urging of [Salvador] Dali. (Call it art for a really cute skirt’s sake.) There are many similar overlaps, which the curators group into categories like “Naif Chic,” saccharine clothes that Prada says explore “innocence as a choice”’ (The Paris Review, 2012)
              
 Photographed on model Adriana Lima. Singer Olivia Rodrigo wore the archival print (the design was not featured on the runway), pairing it with a vintage 1998 Prada top to a 2025 Lancôme pop-up. The skirt was also featured, in full length, at Prada’s recent archival skirts traveling exhibition.

Condition notes-
Moderate light pink dye transfer spotting throughout. A couple of streaks and spots of discoloration which may come out with a dry cleaning. There are a couple of tiny pin holes. Most of these imperfections go unseen due to the pleating and repeating print. Photos upon request.
